ABOUT THE PROJECT
Atlas Engineering Group, as Prime Consultant, is providing Phase III engineering services involving contract administration and construction inspection for the Illinois Tollway’s Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) Plaza Improvements project. These improvements are designed to support a barrier-free Tollway system, improve traffic operations, address aging infrastructure, and eliminate roadway obstacles that are no longer necessary with the transition to cashless tolling.
This work is part of the Tollway’s 16-year, $15 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future, and the 7-year, $2 billion Bridging the Future capital plan. Improvements will include the removal of the toll plaza canopies and barrier walls, and installation of new tolling infrastructure. Construction work will also include ramp pavement and shoulder work, as well as electrical, lighting, and signage improvements.
As the Resident Engineer for this effort, Atlas is providing Construction Management services for the existing plazas and canopies demolition and all associated island medians and equipment, Installation of new precast control buildings, Installation of new plaza equipment on monotubes and concrete barrier walls, new electrical service for the proposed plazas’ control buildings and installation of new pavement, guardrail, concrete barrier walls with the monotubes as required at 13 Ramp Plazas along I-88…
For this project, the Atlas team coordinates with the Tollway’s Business Systems, Engineering, ITS maintenance and Tollway Traffic and Incident Management Center (TIMS) Operations Center for along with Kane and DuPage Counties as well as various municipalities within the project limit.
