Atlas is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer in our Structural Division to join our evolving Team. This position is a design role for all aspects of structural analysis, design and plan preparation for bridges, culverts, facilities, buildings, and various structural projects. Our public and private clients vary from federal, state, and local governments; railroads and transit agencies; and collar county DOTs.

This position will work in a team environment, make sound engineering decisions, and communicate with other engineers and project managers. The Staff Structural Engineer will be responsible for structural analysis, performing calculations and CAD drawings; ability to advance initial design concepts and ideas from project inception through project completion; meet technical goals; collaborate with all team disciplines; and meet project schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • 0-5 years of experience in structural engineering design
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
  • The ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with Engineers and Technicians
  • Critical thinking skills are necessary with the ability to plan and conceptualize
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • FE licensure in Illinois
  • Proficiency in Microstation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Mathcad
  • PE licensure in Illinois in 1 – 3 years

General Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the design of structural services to roadway, rail, facilities, and aviation transportation agencies, and other clients
  • Quality control and assurance
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry services, projects, and trends
  • Actively participate in continuing education activities
  • Coordinates with other disciplines and subconsultants
  • Participates in professional organizations and conferences
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 Technical Responsibilities:

  • Involved in the application of concepts, principles, and methods in structural engineering
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements of the profession
  • Ensures quality control is performed through self-checking of work
  • Performs structural analysis and design of structures
  • Produces CAD drawings

 Communication Skills:

  • Proactively interacts with team members and management
  • Participates in project meetings and presentations
  • Positive attitude with excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills
